My company has lost work because we were underbid by companies who use foreign workers because they will work for less.
I love Mayor Bloomberg because, being a trained engineer (like myself), he is fond of saying “In God we trust, but everyone else needs to show data.”
My loss of work to foreign workers is a data point. I know that there are many other similar data points.
And yes, they are also data points (examples) of immigrants who contribute more than they take from our society.
So Bloomberg needs to take off his populist hat and put on his engineering thinking cap, and stop making absolutist statements that only recognize one part of the data.
Immigration without limits? Limits without justification? Justification without data?
I would like to see Mayor Bloomberg acknowledge that many data points like me do exist and can’t be ignored simply because that data doesn’t fit his theory. Scientific inquiry does not cherry-pick its facts.
I really like everything else about him, BUT if he is only seeing and hearing what he wants to hear on this issue, then I’m afraid he may lack the intellectual curiosity that is also the primary weakness of our Current Occupant.
