Media Frenzy Over the Bloomberg Primary
The perfect storm continues to develop off of the coast of the 2008 presidential race. Yesterday, John McCain was kind enough to heap laudatory praise on Mike Bloomberg’s impressive education reforms (and another piece in the Politico). This was enough to unleash the latest barrage of media speculation that a Bloomberg-McCain ticket was in the works. It’s also reminiscent of 2004 when McCain considered leaving the Republican party to form a unity ticket with John Kerry.
If you add this to the Bloomberg-Gore ticket and Bloomberg-Obama ticket then it’s obvious that there are three sets of primaries going on right now: the Democratic Party’s, the Republican Party’s, and Mike Bloomberg’s running mate. Because the mere mention of Bloomberg in a positive manner is enough to get the media speculating, it will be interesting to see which candidates start campaigning more actively in the Bloomberg primary. The 2008 presidential contest is shaping up to be a very interesting indeed.
