Bloomberg on the Issues: Crime Down, Again, in NYC for 2007

Ok, so he’s built a fortune of 19 billion dollars, created the largest multimedia financial information network in the world, and brought New York City into the days of the Golden Halcyon, but….where does he stand on the issues???

As much as it dismays us, he is not yet a candidate for the Highest Office in the Land. Therefore, he is not running on a political platform and hasn’t crafted any official position statements except for those that are relevant to his current day job as Mayor of New York City.

Understandably though, people want to know where Mike stands on the issues facing the Nation today. Regardless, the Mayor just refuses to spend lots of time making policy speeches full of political promises designed to increase his favorable polls ratings while requiring the least amount of effort.

Instead, he just gets things done.

Frustrating, we know, but…We are here to help!

How is the Mayor dealing with crime in our cities?

The Mayor just announced another year of declining crime in the city.

Here is the Administration’s response to Domestic Violence as a major cause of violent crimes:

Very few victims of homicides were strangers to their perpetrators or were killed in random attacks. Also, there was an impressive decline in domestic violence homicides that coincides with a five-year effort by the Police Department to reduce domestic violence. Specially trained detectives have engaged in proactive domestic violence prevention, doubling their visits to households where domestic violence had occurred. The trips to homes runs counter to the academic belief that little could be done to reduce domestic-related murders. The Police Department has assigned domestic violence officers to every precinct in the City, in some precincts, there are as many as ten domestic violence officers assigned. These specially trained officers made 76,000 domestic violence follow-up visits last year; compared to 38,000 in 2002. In that time, domestic violence-related murders have fallen by nearly half.

We will continue to share Mike on the Issues in the coming days.

Wondering about any issue in particular? Send us a comment and we will get the Policy Position Investigation Team on the job.

  1. Michael White Says:

This completely undercuts Rudy Guiliani’s message that he miraculously reduced crime during his mayorship. Wouldn’t it be fun to see Bloomberg and Guiliani in the general election, and when people actually look at their records as Mayor, have Mike’s blow Rudy’s out of the water?

  2. Andrew MacRae Says:

Here’s the press release on Mike Bloomberg’s site, he’s got to be proud of those results!

  3. Kevin Moore Says:

Foreign policy credentials are likely going to be under the microscope a bit more in the coming weeks with the tragic events in Pakistan. This could blow up to a major crisis without strong leadership from the US.

Obviously, Mayor Bloomberg won’t have the “experience” as some of the others but will need to insure the populace that he will have a solid team around him.

Regardless, I still trust him more than the two characters we’ve had at 1600 PA Ave for the past 15 years.

  4. Andrew MacRae Says:

The last President with actual international relations policy experience was George H.W. Bush. The world has changed since then. Mike Bloomberg understands the economics of globalization in a way that no-one else does.

  5. Karin Gallet Says:

There are actually quite a few statements and positions that the Mayor has taken that provide insight into his foreign policy stance.
I’ll be working to pull together an issues blog post on this over the next day.
I agree it is a very significant part of presenting Bloomberg as our candidate of choice to the public

  6. Kevin Moore Says:

All the current candidates are coming out of the woodwork to tout their “foreign policy” experience. The only two who can honestly say they have a better resume here are McCain and Biden. It will be good to get some talking points - I’ll admit I don’t have much to say other than the fact that W and Clinton had none either when they came to office.
