More on Bloomberg’s NYE Reply to Ryan Seacrest

Let’s check out the Mike’s reply to Ryan Seacrest - take a look at the video yourself:

Now, I might consider that a fait acompli and hang up my hat for the remainder of the next month or so or I could put myself in Mayor Bloomberg’s shoes:

  • Two days away from the Iowa caucuses, and you are seeing a surge in interest in you running, which could impact other announced candidates - especially ones like Sen. Clinton or former Mayor Guliani. You do not want to be considered a cause for impacting the upcoming primaries by being seen as a stalking horse candidate (think back to 2004 with General Wesley Clark).
  • Your political consultants want you to launch your campaign after the presumptive nominees are chosen, and you might impact the chances of your better opposition if speculation is fueled that you are truly planning a run.
  • You have always thought that you would run if certain “stars” are aligned. You would not want to disturb the potential outcomes if your political strategists suggest that you could be considered a spoiler of some sort.
  • And….Ryan Seacrest just asked you on National Television if you are going to run. What better time to quash speculation for the next couple of weeks until the nation decides on the other two candidates?

People make choices on issues with far greater information that any reporter (or blogger, for that matter) can divine. But, as a supporter of Mayor Bloomberg and someone who is tired of same-ol’ partisan politics, I still hold my torch high.

And wait - what is this I see on MSNBC? A slight rephrasing of what was said with Secrest? Hmmm…click here for the video.

We are still seeing signatures (we hit 767 as of this post) and things will start to heat up again right after Iowa. So, have a break - focus on the outcomes of Iowa since it is essentially a three-way tie on the Democratic side, and the Republicans won’t be decided until New Hampshire.

But while we watch, help us draft the Mayor by signing the Draft Bloomberg petition!

Next post, why George Stephanopoulos is wrong about a successful third party run, if Mayor Bloomberg runs.

After all these months of carefully wording “I am not a candidate” to some of the most respected journalists in the country, Bloomberg decides to completely quash the speculation on NYE with the MC of American Idol?
The next ten days will be very interesting, to say the least.
We’ll just stick to our knitting, and get the petition signed!

Keep in mind that Mike absolutely cannot answer this question in the affirmative until he’s actually ready. Doing so would create a situation where he’s the top national news story on the spot…broke by Ryan Seacrest?! Not going to happen.

His answer was the boilerplate blow-off. The fact that he used the same exact language is in itself almost a wink-wink message to those of us following this closely. He’s not going to answer that question in the affirmative until the dem/rep front runners are known.

The ramp-up of the level of obviousness of his running will happen on his terms within audiences that are more “political” than those who were watching the ball drop. The most prominent political news story of this election cycle isn’t going to be broke by an assistant host of a show that amounts to televised karaoke (no offense to the fans) ;)

  3. Mike Bloomberg for President Says:

Exactly. I mean would any potential candidate for President of the United States make their announcement to the world by way of an off-hand question by Ryan Seacrest? I mean really. Somebody ought to smack that punk.

  4. Michael White Says:

GP, you’ve got it exactly right. He could/would never have said he was running, so it means nothing that he didn’t.
