I was thinking today - if things bounce right - there could six major presidential candidates come November for all of us to choose from! Here’s the likely choices….

    The “Tax and Spend” Party:
    Hillary Clinton

The “Surge, Surge, and more Surge” Party:
    John McCain

    The “Government Sucks” Party:
    Ron Paul

The “Lets bankrupt the country to save the polar bears” Party:
    Ralph Nader

The “James Dobson Let’s teach Creationism in schools” Party:
    Rick Santorum

The “Common Sense - Let’s get the country on the right track” Party:
    Mike Bloomberg

    Democracy at Work!!!!!

  2. Kevin Moore Says:

Looks like this is the end for Mitt. What I didn’t see coming was that it would be Huckabee and not McCain to deliver the final blow.

I think Huckabee’s strength in the south makes a McCain/Huckabee ticket look pretty likely. Normally VP’s aren’t a huge deal - but with a 71 year old candidate - I think that the fiscal conservate, social moderates that would normally support McCain will have to think very hard about the possiblity of a President Huckabee.

  3. PhilWray Says:

I wouldn’t count Obama out yet. Looks like Huckabee will be needed to deliver the evangelical pillar to the Republican Ticket. With Romney out, does that mean that McCain is both the fiscal and defense pillars? I guess he really doesn’t understand economics if he thinks we can maintain fiscally conservative government and still stay in Iraq for 100 years.

  4. Jack Says:

Its actually really surprising since Huckabee can hardly be considered to have won WV. Its more like WV was given to Huckabee by the McCain cronies because they didn’t want Romney to have more delegates.

  5. Gadfly Says:

Wait just a second there Jack!

Huckabee won West Virginia, fair and square, and it had little to do with the McCain cronies. On the first ballot Huckabee trailed (41%-33%.) Then he struck a deal with Paul (3 national delegates for Paul’s 10% of convention-goers) and then McCain’s 16% broke 3 to 2 to Huckabee, because that was the breakdown of WV McCain supporters preferences, and that gave him the margin for victory.

Now if you want to make that argument, a better place is Missouri, where McCain got 33% of the vote, and got 100% of the delegates. The GOP really needs to rethink some of their rules.

  6. John Milligan Says:

Obama is in the thick of it and if he runs the next 6 this weekend and next Tuesday (very possible IMHO), I think we have a real tide-turner upset on our hands. Hillary would HAVE to run TX, OH, and PA or the remaining Super Delgates will jump on that ‘Obama Bandwagon’! As for Mike, well he should start chiming on the biggie issues that he could establish a run on if it comes to that. Anything can happen and Mike and us need to prepare/plan for such eventualities.
