One way to build support to encourage Mayor Bloomberg to run is to post on various forums urging support and showing how he is better qualified because of his experience than others. the Main Stream Media will be making efforts to discredit the Republicans so more effort should be spent on the Democrats who happen to be less qualified in terms of experience than any of the other candidates.

there are quite a few topix forums such as http://www.topix.net/forum/state/ca
Registering on one registers the user on many forums. search engines can be used to find individual forums using a state or city name followed by the "forum".

is a good place to post copies of his speeches, etc.

Some newspapers such as the Washington Post, N.Y. Times etc allow comments on news stories and editorials.

One of the reasons for excessive partisanship in politics is that many of those involved have one bit minds. In a computer one bit can stand for either of two conditions. People with one bit minds can only consider two possibilities. Everything must be an either or question. They don't know how to handle dealing with 3 possibilities. the idea of cooperation between the two parties in Congress is laughable because Congress has done very little since the Democrats took control.

On the subject of Iraq and 9/11, everyone seems to ignore why the Saudis were so mad at us. One of the mistakes the first President Bush did in Iraq was establish American bases in Iraq to contain Saddam Hussein. Many Saudis consider their country their Holy Land and the presence of our "infidel troops" defiled it. They tried to force us out be bombing a barracks. Then they attacked the Cole and a couple of embassies. Finally they conducted the 9/11 attack.

the Republican Party was once a third party. There are two parties because in the past they adjusted to accept the ideas of the third parties. Today they exist by inertia, particularly the Democratic party. The MSM have kept it on life support for years. Only 2 winning Democrats since FDR have gotten a majority of the popular vote.

The 2004 election was only close because the MSM lied about John Kerry including Dan Rather's irrelevant stories about Bush's National Guard service. Questions about a president should focus on his presidency rather than what he did decades earlier.

I know it's a tad off topic... but this Web site "Ethanol: Fact, Fiction, Reality" may cut thru the myths that surround this all imporatnt topic:

http://ethanolfactfictionreality.blogspot.com/

This site is my nephew's who is engaged in grad school research on cellulosic ethanol in the Midwest. He designed the site as a way to sift through the vast amounts of information coming in about the emergence of the ethanol industry, is using it to bring clarity to his own discussion/research (chime in on it), and hopes it can help others to understand some of the realities of ethanol in the process.

Many people have tried running for major office as third party candidates. If one runs as the sole candidate, he/she will lose. Elections are won from the bottom up, not the top down.
Mayor Bloomberg can win first because he has his own money and can speak legitimately for himself - no-one needs to buy him. Second if he has candidates on a ticket for Congressional and Senatorial Seats. So, if people out there are interested in taking part in a successful third party win, some of you will have to get in the race with him. You don't necessarily need lots of money, a few faithful volunteers can be vital to your win.
In my almost forty years of political activism, I have worked with a few poorly funded campaigns and won. For those who are sponsoring the Mayor's draft, think about this advice, you will only win, if actually winning the election is what interests you, from the bottom up!
I can be reached by e-mail at dmreed2@verizon.net. Personally, I believe people are interested in "Outside Washingtonians" in both the Administration and Legislature. The present contenders are so 'over-monied' everyone knows they can not speak for themselves. And, they have gotten so involved in personal as well as nasty attacks, people are turned off. They are all losers!
'People' are really not dumb, numb - maybe, but not dumb. They ARE looking for real solutions to real problems. They know our bureaucracies are not working. There is a visiting professor at George Mason University who has been a legislator in another country which at one time had the most successful economy in the world. It slipped until it was forced to take stock of itself. The solution could be summed up in one word, 'accountability'. One needs to ask the question "does the solution solve the problem?"
One need only look at our Veterans Administration to learn the lesson of failure to be accountable. The Walter Reed hospital debacle is the best example. In spite of that horrible mess and failure to care for the very people upon whom our society depends, candidates on both sides of the aisle play ignorant by not even mentioning how they would solve such problems. The answer to that kind of question is what a President does - or should do! So while the Dems talk about National Health Care, the Repubs try to out-health care them. Both are too far off the mark. So, America needs a candidate whose attention to detail is centered on real solutions rather than on who furnished the money to get in the race in the first place, as well as how best they can slaughter their opponents.
The very designation 'Third Party' is crafted to tell the electorate there are only two parties. Parties are not even mentioned in the constitution, so who decided we have only two parties? And why? Think about that!

Bush May Leave Ballooning Deficit, Curbing Successor's Programs

Jan. 22 (Bloomberg) -- President George W. Bush is poised to leave the federal government in worse financial shape than he found it, making it harder for whoever succeeds him to deliver on the promises of this year's election campaign.

Bush may end his eight years in office with a larger-than- forecast budget deficit approaching 2004's record $413 billion, as an increasingly likely recession slashes tax receipts and raises spending. He'll also leave behind a host of thorny, longer-term problems -- from the expiration of his big tax cuts in 2010 to spiraling spending on senior citizens -- that will dog his successor's budgets for years.

That means Democratic candidates Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama would find it harder to finance their promised expansion of health-care benefits. Republicans Rudy Giuliani and Mitt Romney would have a tougher time carrying out their pledges to cut taxes.

We have a big hole to crawl out of,'' says Robert Bixby, head of the Washington-based Concord Coalition, a nonpartisan group that advocates balanced budgets.

Any sort of major initiative by the next president is going to be very difficult to do.''

All current talk seems to be steeped along party lines. Our talking heads seem unwilling or ignorant of the fact that real change - both social and political- comes from movements.
It surprises me in watching the clip from Sunday’s “Meet the Press” that there little talk, of historic political movements and shifts that gave us the Lincolns and Eisenhowers instead of the McClellans and the Stevensons.
The “man on a white horse” theory of history still holds water; he (or she) is capable of bring change in a civil manner.
I am not so sure that this movement, the one some of us are trying to move off dead center, is so much about Mike Bloomberg as those he has surrounded him, people who are not your average “K” Street patrons, but the “best available” on timely, important matters and don’t wear a price tag on their service.
Then again, we could end this election year with another man (or woman) on the white horse -who does, as one of the more famous Italian dictators did - declaring D.C. a city-state, immune to all around it except for the anointed in the colonies, in order to maintain much of the status quo.
Once I thought the most important vote I would make was for JFK. Current feeing now is major moment has shifted to ‘08 and casting a ballot for Bloomberg and Company.

I am in no way a representative of the group I mentioned before. I simply have signed up for their e-mail updates. However, I think if a draft movement is going to be effective, it should unite the various groups who support the candidate under the common theme of getting that candidate to actually run. A united front is the best front, in my opinion. I am actually a Democrat (though certainly not a liberal or a partisan by any means), not an independent Green. However, I think the group that I have mentioned does have some advantages, particularly in organization and members, including two of the founding members of Unity08.

I'd just like to here what others think about uniting with other draft groups.

Hi all,

This MLK Day I feel compelled to stand up in support of my two favorite (potential) candidates for POTUS, Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Senator Barak Obama.

Writing as a fiscal conservative and social liberal, I believe both men have done worlds of good to address some of the pressing issues we face as a society. I think the two of them together could be the one/two punch we're looking for to overcome the Democrat/Republican partisan dichotomy specifically, and the neverending deadlock that grips Washington DC in general.

I'm reminded of the recently dedicated African Burial Ground in lower Manhattan, memorializing the deaths of as many as 15,000-20,000 African Americans that had gone unrecognized for centuries. As a New Yorker I am well acquainted with how instrumental Mayor Bloomberg was in making this dream a reality and, I believe, he can and will bring about similar reconciliation if given the opportunity to serve as our nation's president.

In a similar fashion Senator Obama has galvanized an electorate hungry for a new era in which all Americans are invited to join together in pursuit of an American dream that casts aside the usual differences that have divided us for far too long: race, gender, age, sexual orientation and political affiliation. Where some see the melting pot as something foreign and threatening, Obama recognizes it for what it can be at the end of the day: a pot of gold.

Right now most Americans agree that the primary issue facing our nation is the state of its economy. There is no better chief executive to address this particular issue than Michael Bloomberg, a self-made businessman & entrepreneur who turned to politics later in life out of a sense of civic duty -- he loves New York City, and New York City has greatly benefitted from his leadership.

Mayor Bloomberg is a pragmatic manager who steered NYC's post-9/11 economy away from what could have easily been financial ruin. He not only avoided a likely fiscal catastrophe but actually managed to create what is arguably the most favorable economic climate the city has ever experienced.

The first order of business is for our nation to get its fiscal house in order. This requires the experience of a skilled administrator with a proven track record not only as a politician but also as a chief executive in the business world. Then we may all be in a position to better address the more vexing social issues that have plagued our country for hundreds of years, and will likely take longer than one economic cycle to fix.

Economic cycles are temporary and Bloomberg is the best chief executive we can hope for to set our accounts straight over the next four to eight years. After that, let's hope it's Obama's time to step up to the plate, because there may be no other way to reconcile our nation's deep-seated social ills than to have a skilled arbitrator with 16 years under his belt in the executive office (working up from VP).

I hope to revisit this forum in the future to read the posts and perhaps I will jump in again with a message that drills down a bit more into specifics. It would be an interesting personal exercise for me, at least, to start fleshing out the specific ways in which I think Bloomberg is the best candidate not only for our nation's economic well-being, but also for immigration reform, the Iraq War, Israel/Palestine, terrorism, the environment, gun violence, gay rights, healthcare, education, voting reform, campaign finance reform, and our nation's ailing infrastructure. Bloomberg can do so much more for the United States in the Oval Office than as a philanthropist giving away his billions.

Bottom line, I'm on the Bloomberg train but I'll take a back seat on Obama's bus too, if that is an option. A Bloomberg/Obama ticket could be lethal in the best possible way and truly revolutionary. This is just one dude's personal opinion of course; it will be interesting to see how it all works itself out in the end... let's hope it works out for the best.

All the best,
David Fisher
---------------
Addendum

Political affiliations: registered Democrat for most of my life, I've also been unaffiliated/independent as well as Republican (for the sole purpose of a swing vote in MA 2000 for McCain against Bush).

Voting history: '92 (Perot in CA); '96 (abstained in WA if I remember correctly, or possibly Clinton if I did vote); '00 (Nader in MA); '04 (Kerry in NY); '08 (will be for Bloomberg and/or Obama). Yeah, I know, I don't seem to pick winners. :-(

Political activism: NYC march against the Iraq War (pre-war), Downtown for Democracy get-out-the-vote drive Ohio '04 (for Kerry); support Sargent Binkley and end mandatory minimums http://www.supportsarge.org/

... as for Hillary: I'm not against her as a candidate per se, however do you think she can overcome a negative-approval rating higher than any presidential candidate in American history? Deserved or not, those numbers are enough to move me away from her camp. Plus she isn't my first or second pick regardless of how she polls. I'm looking for a winner(s). Just my two cents.

Looking forward to an eventful '08!

reasonmclucus:

I'm a former Fred Thompson supporter who finds the rest of the Republican Field fatally fall and anyone of them is ripe for the fall to either Hillary or Obama in the looming fall general election campaign.

My interest is finding a candidate that can go the distance. I know very little of Mayor Bloomberg past the present office he holds, and of course, his easy and ready acess to campaign capital. Having said that, I am not a fan of self-financed campaigns as the ability to collect campaign capital from others is a key measure of the true support enjoyed by a candidate.

I am interested in learning more about Mayor Bloomberg's positions, first in a sales chart features and benefits way, then more deeply if I see where I can match up Mayor Bloomberg's positions to folks I know in some varied industries with interests in foreign and domestic policy.

I hoping to find more thoughtful and indepth positions than I see currently from the Republican field. Just to make my position crystal clear, I cannot vote for a Democrat for President. I loath, detest and despise the Clintons for past and present transgretions, while Senator Obama is entirely unrealistic in his foreign policy.

I thank you in advance for your kind consideration.

Those who want Michael Bloomberg to run for president should keep in mind that his best strategy would be to wait as long as possible before entering the race. He would benefit from allowing the major party candidates to discredit themselves or for people to just get tired of them.

The media have pushed the major party candidates into starting the public portion of their campaigns much too early. they should have spent 2007 getting their organizations together and not have begun actively campaigning and debating until after Jan 1.

The Democrats have decided to run a media star rather than a serious presidential candidate. Neither Barack Obama nor Hillary Clinton have any relevant experience. If they were white males no one would seriously consider either of them as a candidate.

The Republican front runners have the necessary experience, but none of them has demonstrated the ability to appeal to the public that Reagan, Eisenhower and the two Roosevelts had.

as the primary season drags on voters may decide they would really like to have another choice. That would be the time for Michael Bloomberg to announce a candidacy.

Supporters should go ahead with efforts to get his name on state ballots and to build public support by participating in as many online forums as possible.

I don't know at this point if I would vote for Bloomberg or not, but I would like to have a choice instead of being limited to the Republican candidate.

Is there any effort to unify the Draft Bloomberg movement, particularly with the group at www.draftmichael.com (I am also a member of that group). I think it would be helpful if a united effort were presented.

GPinMinnesota: Your phrase "nearly infantile sort of thinking" gets to Me. You are TOO Kind!

My journey here has been very long and convoluted. I started out with a website about losing My Father to the greed of the Railroad. He died from injuries from an accident at an unsafe crossing near Our home. After His death, I found the Railroad (Big Business) got to My States 'Law Makers' and 'passed' a law limiting the damages They could be held responsible for. My State, (Co) has a limit of $341,250.00 for a Wrongful Death Suit. My Lawyers told Me that was IT, no more! It didn't matter that the Railroad downsized the crossing (I believe illegally), it didn't matter the crossing was NOT up to standards and it didn't matter this was S.O.P. for the Railroad Nation wide (meaning even though the danger WAS known to Them, it was blatantly & purposely ignored, to save a few dollars for Them). I do not know of Anyone willing to trade $341,250.00 for a Loved Ones Life and IF there are People out there who WOULD, I do NOT want to know Them.

That was My starting point. It has led Me up the 'chain of Command' to here, where I believe the corruption begins. That corruption being the Special Interest Groups (Big Business) buying Our Politicians and Their Votes. This MUST STOP!

I am NOT a Politician, I have NO skills as a Diplomat and I cannot look someone in the face and smile while lying My butt off. I just found this site yesterday and I have not had a chance to research what Mr Bloombergs views are yet. However, I DO and can SEE where Mr. Bloomberg is the BEST and in My mind, the only, possible solution for Our Country right now!

As a Businessman, His success is unquestionable and He has the experience needed to Lead Our Nation. With His personal wealth, I would hope He would be immune to monetary influence and also show some gratitude to the Nation that allowed His success.

I read somewhere the He does not want to be a 'spoiler', Unfortunately, I believe this is EXACTLY what We NEED. A Spoiler to come in and break the cycle of repetition We are locked into, Especially, the Bush/Clinton/Bush Dynasty! For Twenty Years They have been allowed to erode Our Constitutional Rights and undermine the Spirit of Our Nation. Enough already!

These are enough reasons for Me to want Mr. Bloomberg to run for President! I want CHANGE, Not just a change of the Face that would continue to erode My rights as an American! (My apologies for being so long winded)

Is there any effort to start petitions in states where it is particularly hard to get an independent on the ballot, or are we waiting for Bloomberg to announce, if he decides to run?

Centrist organizations are organizations that attempt to put substance over emotion. Our current political landscape is often mired in petty arguments, emotional "hot button" issues, and shameless pandering to the activist bases fringe of BOTH parties. These sorts of issues are used to divide us and keep our attention away from dealing with more pressing issues, or in dealing with issues in a realistic manner.

There are noble efforts made in both of our major political parties, but often these efforts are derailed by people "playing politics" and pandering. We need to solidify a Bloomberg candidacy based on soberly addressing real nation-buster issues, instead of the emotional wedge ones. In developing our sobered and rational understanding of the issues we face as a nation, we can learn much from existing organizations who also operate on this level.

To that end, started by several Unity08 Delegates (but not sanctioned by the Unity08), several of us have created a wiki site and a listing of some good Bipartisan Centrist Organizations, current Republican and Democrat Reps (and some not, but with some good Centrist ideas therein) and various research entities of many stripes for us to learn from, tap into on various issues, and leverage in our efforts here for the Bloomberg effort.

http://unity-usa.org/wiki/index.php?title=Centrist_organizations

The Bloomberg effort will benefit tremendously by reaching out to the groups/entities (listed on the link) and by establishing a relationship to these tremendous organizations with good solid centrist ideas that could bolster our efforts. There are many more of these types of centrist entities out there, but these are good jumping off points for our efforts. Add to the list please and reach out feelers to these entities. An informed and activated citizenry is the best defense for a sustainable Republic!
